First off, thanks to everyone who gave well wishes to my cat, Rosie, in my last entry. She is fully recovered and at home with her co-dependant sister. The vet attributed her recovery to us getting her in so quick, so remember if you even think your pet has eaten something poisonous, take them to the vet immediately.

Warning!: If you have cats, don't have Lilies.
Congrats!
dinoshad2brains
So a friend got me a bouquet of flowers for my birthday. Like an idiot, I didn't check what they were, and instead brought them into my apartment. The cats didn't really get into them until today, when Rosie wanted to see them and so I stupidly hoisted her up closer to them. She stuck her face in them, and came out with a face stained with pollen. I laughed for a moment, because it was cute, then she licked it off her nose, and I remembered: SOME FLOWERS ARE TOXIC TO CATS. I didn't know what kind of flower this was.

Well, they probably don't put highly toxic plants in common bouquets, I thought. But I'm a paranoid person, so I looked up flowers toxic to cats anyway, just so I could put my worry aside. Boom! Lily! Giant picture of the flower she just stuck her face in, one of the most toxic flowers to cats, and super common. Lilies cause kidney failure in cats within a few days, even the pollen.

I rushed her to the vet, and they saw her within an hour of her ingesting it. She's stuck at the emergency vet for 2 days, and basically having her kidneys flushed. She's expected to make a full recovery, though there's a chance she'll get some kidney damage out of it, and still a very small chance she could still go into kidney failure. But if I hadn't been so paranoid and brought her in immediately, if I'd waited even a day to see our regular vet, she would probably be dead within a few days.

Her sister is freaking out. I'm freaking out. My boyfriend is freaking out.

Lilies are super common, they usually have 6 petals, three behind the other three, and long stamens with lots of pollen. They come in lots of colors. And they were only the top of a long list.

I know this isn't sims related, but I also know lots of you have cats. The morals: Check your flowers if you have pets, and be paranoid.

Also, the friend who got me the flowers has a cat, and so if these at the type of flowers she likes, I should probably warn her, right? I don't blame her at all, I'd just want to warn her for her cat. That's gonna be awkward.

Progress Report and Kitten Cam

So I went to go shoot the pictures, and found out my game is borked. Sims dropping items off queues, springing up through walls, and no free will actions whatsoever. I am officially done with my game just glitching on me, and uninstalled, reinstalled, only to find that my apartment life disc is scratched in a place where it only matters for installation, not for game play.

But the good news is that I've ordered a new copy on ebay, it's on its way here, and I'm going to start using meetme2theriver's clean neighborhoods, so my game doesn't do this in the future. I was worried switching to the uberhood for my story neighborhood would make Strangetown feel like less of a small isolated town, but I've decided that seeing familiar faces wandering around in the background even they're from other towns is probably better for a small town feel than a stream of downtownies always wandering around.

Also, I've managed to nearly finished writing chapter 9 while waiting for my new copy of apartment life to arrive, and it is all creepy Olive Specter, all the time.

So, for now I will leave you with something that is unarguably more enjoyable than my story: Kitten Cam. A friend took in a stray who just had 6 adorable kittens a few days ago, and she's put a webcam on them. She plans to get them all spayed and neutered, keep the mom and a kitten and adopt out the rest.

Really? Me? In a Simsecret?
Congrats!

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks to whoever submitted that simsecret about me. Those were some very kind words and some VERY nice stories that completely outclass me to be mentioned in the same sentence as. I had no idea anyone was actually waiting for my stuff, not just regarding it with mild bemusement when it showed up and forgetting it when it didn't.

I don't take it as pushy at all. I tend to trail off and get things done slowly. Too slowly. The fact that I need a life coach to motivate me through playing computer games at a reasonable speed is probably indicative of a lot of things about me.

But Chapter 8 is written, and I am devoting this Friday (one of my days off work) to shooting pictures for it. I don't promise I'll get all of them done, because I'm really slow, but your secret has lit a fire under me. So thank you.

TL;DR Still here, in a rainforest, upcoming plot teasers

Hey, so it's been a while, but I'm still alive. I've been a bad commenter lately, and I'm trying to make amends. I like all of you and your stories very much, so no more of the bad commenter stuff, just keep it coming.

I've also been a bad writer. I'm blaming that on the weather. See, I'm trying to write about a tiny quirky town in the middle of the desert, and I'm living in the heart of a large city on a large body of water that feeds to the ocean, in what is considered to be one of the only rainforests north of the tropic of cancer. Desert small town vs. Rainforest metropolis.

So you see how I'm having trouble getting into it.

But it will stop raining for summer soon, and I'm writing today, even though it's raining. And I've got some pretty great plot lines I want to explore. First I've got to finish up Ophelia and Olive's ongoing plot, and Pascal will finally have his baby, but then I've got a pretty spectacular introduction for Chloe and Lola, a lot more screen time for Vidcund in a direction you won't see coming, the Beakers go even more mad scientist, and a plot for Buck Grunt that I feel very new and original and smug about, and I think you all will like, if I ever get to it.

Basically a lot of these plots are going to be skeletons coming our of people's closets on ambiguous things past in Strangetown. Is Olive a serial killer? Why pollination technicians? What the hell is up with the Curious twins chronology? And what ever happened to that missing woman? But not the one you think -- I've said too much. Just know that Strangetown can't contain these secrets forever, and I'll either write a bunch so I can update quickly for at least a while, or I'll start making my chapters shorter, so it appears like I'm writing more.

So I've been playing the Sims 2 for a long time. And I've tried most things out, done things just to see what would happen. But I'm think I'm pretty good at the actual traditional gameplay business. Everyone learns skills, early death is unheard of, tops of careers are reached. So this is the first time this has ever happened to me except for one time when I did it purposely to seed the adoption pool.

The Social Worker took all my sims' children.

It wasn't my fault!Collapse )

So, I thought "Everyone's definitely already heard about the allthingsimlish love fest by now," but then why are some of you not signed up for it? I have been looking for you on it, trying to say nice things about you! So, you're awesome enough that you probably didn't feel the need to put your name up because you already know that you're awesome and don't need someone to tell you. But you're still depriving me of a forum to say nice things about you! And other people who want to say nice things about you, too.

I feel really warm and fuzzy about the responses I've got, I mean, that I got any at all. I know I'm kind of the queen of slow posting, and that makes me pretty quiet and easy to miss. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to anyone who said anything to me.

Also, I've been having fun guessing at who said what, just by the speech patterns and word usage in the comments. Some of them sound like the comment leaver is definitely from a specific area. I wonder if my comments sound Californian. Maybe I should just start telling everyone they're "hella rad, bro".

Hey guys, I made a thing! ...Kind of

So I decided to try to make some custom clothing with bodyshop. It was my first time doing so, and it was surprisingly fun and easy. It was just like sewing, but on a computer. I hate to brag, but I have at least a silver sewing badge.

I have a love-hate relationship with the goth dress from TSS. I love the corset, love the layers of fabric, love the boots, hate the tie more than anything. I wanted to make a less goth more punk version, and so I borrowed some plaid textures from a base game men's shirt, and also ditched the fishnet. And the knee socks. I hate those too.

And except for a few unexpected problems, I think it was mostly a success...

Then why are you only showing me a long shot of the back?Collapse )

The Late Mr. & Mrs. Nigmos
Congrats!
dinoshad2brains

I was working on the next chapter of The Drake Equation and I whipped up some characters I will be needing for it (not really a spoiler): Creon and Willow Nigmos. Willow is made from a combination of Olive and Ophelia, and takes more after Olive in my opinion. Creon is made from Ophelia and a CAS sim of mine who's also the the founder of my BACC. Since the CAS sim is basically a random element, Creon looks more like Ophelia. Or should I say she looks more like her father?

Anyway, together they have a full set of Ophelia's features, meaning it's possible to have these two have a child with Ophelia's features (I checked it out in CAS). Well, I mean, you'd have to give Willow recessives, but still.

More pictures here.Collapse )
